How to make iced coffee with your Keurig Brewer.

Saturday, July 9th, 2011

Over the hot days of summer the usual brew of hot coffee loses some of its appeal.

Not that those of us who are die-hard coffee drinkers stop drinking coffee, but maybe we slow down a little.

Unless, of course, we turn to iced coffee or some other kind of cold coffee recipe.

If you have a Keurig brewer, you can make a quick and easy iced coffee, as you can see from the short video above.

The challenge with the Keurig is that the brew still comes out hot, so you need a lot of ice to cool it down quickly. And, with a lot of ice, the coffee taste can become diluted as the ice melts.

This is why Keurig sells a special selection of Brew Over Ice K-Cups. They contain more coffee than regular K-Cups, making a stronger brew.

In other words, the extra strong brew from these k-Cups compensates for the diluting effect of the ice.

This is a great way to make a quick and easy iced coffee beverage at any time of the day.

You can buy these special Brew Over Ice K-Cups online at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

The Keurig Milk Frother – a great holiday gift idea for coffee lovers.

Keurig Milk Frother

Keurig Milk Frother

What do you buy a coffee lover who already has a great brewer and grinder?

The answer is – an automatic milk frother.

You just add skim milk, turn it on and wait for 90 seconds. The frother heats the milk and stirs it. Then you can pour the whipped milk direct from the frother, and spoon out all that lovely froth.

What kind of coffees can you add whipped milk and froth to?

Pretty much any kind of coffee you want.

We have a Keurig K-Cup brewer, which we use most of the time. So we choose a dark roast K-Cup, make the coffee and then create an instant cappuccino or latte by using the frother.

Of course, this isn’t a real cappuccino, because it doesn’t have a shot of espresso as the base. But it’s still pretty darned good, and better than the cappuccinos and lattes I get served in many restaurants.

But you don’t have to use it with a single serve brewer. You can do the same with coffee from a drip brewer or French press. Just make the coffee, whip the milk, and you’ll have a real treat on your hands.

You can also use it to make a simply amazing mug of hot chocolate!

One last thing…it has a non-stick interior, so it’s easy to clean.

How to save money, and the environment, with your Keurig K-Cup brewer.

The Keurig My K-Cup Coffee Filter

The Keurig My K-Cup Coffee Filter

People love their Keurig brewers.

I have one myself, and I love it.

But there are a couple of things that used to trouble me.

First, those K-Cups cost a lot of money. Sure, it’s the most convenient way to make coffee imaginable. But the cost soon mounts up.

Second, millions of used K-Cups are thrown away every week. And no, they are not recyclable.

Is there an answer to these problems?

Yes, there is.

I simply bought myself a My K-Cup reusable coffee filter.

Each time you want a cup of coffee, you just add ground coffee to the filter, screw on the lid and place it on your Keurig brewer, instead of using a K-Cup.

Instantly, the price of each cup of coffee is cut by over half. Plus, there is nothing to throw away, other than the used coffee grinds. And I add those to my compost pile.

If you have always wanted a Keurig brewer, but didn’t like the cost of the K-Cups, or the waste, this is your answer.

Just buy the Keurig K-Cup brewer plus a My K-Cup Coffee Filter.

And if you already have the brewer, just buy the My K-Cup.

True, it will take an extra 30 second to make each cup of coffee.

But you’ll save a bundle of cash, and you’ll be doing your part for the environment.

What to do when descaling your Keurig K-Cup Brewer doesn’t seem to work.

Descale your Keurig Brewer

Descale your Keurig Brewer

If you have been using your Keurig brewer for a while, you may have experienced a problem with a build-up of scale within the narrow tubes in the brewer. This is particularly prone to happen in areas with hard water.

Fortunately, the display screen on the brewer will tell you when it is time to descale.

You can descale your brewer either by running vinegar through the brewer, and then rinsing with a few cycles of water, or with a product called Dezcal.

But what if you do all this, but you still have a problem? Some people descale their brewers and find the descale message remains, or they are still not getting a full cup of water coming through when they brew.

The answer is very simple, and has been the subject of a discussion over on the CoffeeDetective.com website.

Sometimes coffee grinds from the K-Cup back up into the steel needle that pierces the top of the K-Cup. If the needle becomes clogged, then it gets harder for water to pass through when you are brewing.

Simply take a toothpick or paperclip and gently scrape away any build-up of coffee grinds in the needle. Then run water through the system to flush out the loose grinds. Be careful when you do this, as the needle is very sharp.

Anyway, this seems to do the trick.

Keurig Office Pro K-Cup Coffee Maker

Keurig Office Pro K-Cup Coffee Maker

The Keurig Office Pro B145 Coffee Brewer works in the same way as any other Keurig brewer. You use K-Cups and brew one cup of coffee at a time.

One cup coffee makes a lot of sense for an office environment, where people may have very different tastes in the types of coffee they enjoy most.

Using the Keurig Office Pro means everyone can get their own stash of the coffees and blends they like best.

If you like flavored coffee, make one cup for yourself.

If someone lined up just behind you wants a herbal tea, they just use a herbal tea K-Cup.

Single serve coffee making was developed for the home market, simply because it`s a more convenient to brew one cup at a time, without the mess and bother of traditional filters and drip brewers.

But, in fact, one cup coffee machinesare an even better investment for a small office, or for a group or team within a larger office.

No more conflicts between caffeinated and decaf. So more arguments over whose turn it is to make the coffee. No more worries about that guy who always grabs a cup before the brew cycle is complete.

The Keurig Office Pro has the same features you find in the Keurig home brewers, but is built to deal with about ten times the usage. It is UL Approved for Commercial Use, and includes the special construction and materials required to meet the UL standards.
