The short answer is yes, you can.
Here are a couple of ways you can do it.
The first is with a nifty machine called the Perfect Pod Maker. When you buy the machine it comes with a set of empty coffee pods.
First, plug in the Perfect Pod Maker (it seals the coffee pods with heat and pressure).
You place the coffee pod in the machine, add ground coffee, fold over the top of the sleeve...and then close the lid of the Perfect Pod Maker. Heat and pressure are then applied to the edges of the pod to create a seal.
Another good feature of this machine is that it has an in-built scale. This means you can accurately measure exactly how many grams of ground coffee you are adding to the pod. (10 grams for an 8 ounce mug of coffee seems about right.)
A less expensive approach is to buy some Melitta FilterPads. There is a small opening on the edge of each empty pod. You fill it with coffee through the opening, then fold it closed and add the pod to your pod brewer.
You can try either one of these approaches. But here’s a question for you...why make your own coffee pods at all?
There are two reasons to make your own pods: to save money and to give yourself the freedom to try absolutely every coffee out there.
But coffee pods are already very inexpensive. Much cheaper than K-Cups or T-Discs.
And because coffee pods are “open format”, any coffee roaster can sell their coffee in pods. And they do. So there is already a huge range of choices when it comes to finding your favorite coffee.
There is a certain do-it-yourself pleasure to be enjoyed when making your own coffee pods. But is won’t save you a huge amount of money, or significantly increase your choice of coffees.
