That’s a reasonable question. After all, there is a whole mythology based around the process of buying whole beans, grinding them carefully and then making a wonderful, fresh brew.
A K-Cup coffee will likely never be quite as good as a pot of coffee made from top quality, fresh-ground beans.
While K-Cups are sealed and the coffee inside is protected from both oxygen and light, the coffee was ground quite some time before you actual use the K-Cup.
But...will you really notice a difference?
The answer to this question is, “Probably not.”
There are some coffee drinkers who approach coffee the way a wine connoisseur looks at wine. They have a great “nose” and can taste the difference between coffee beans grown in different parts of the same region.
These are the professional tasters and the hard-core enthusiasts.
But for most of us, K-Cup coffee tastes every bit as good as fresh-ground coffee. Maybe there are subtle differences, but we probably don’t even notice them.
One thing to keep in mind is that any K-Cup, coffee pod or T-Disc is only as good as the coffee that goes into it.
So if you find a one cup brew that is a little disappointing, the problem is more likely to be with the coffee itself, and not with the one-cup format.
That’s why we always like to check out Green Mountain Coffee first. Long before they sold K-Cups they already had an excellent reputation as master roasters.
And rather than just make some anonymous new blend to put in K-Cups, they take their most successful coffees and simply make them available in the K-Cup format as well.
