If you own, or are thinking about buying a Keurig brewer, it’s worth knowing a little about Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

On the face of it, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) is just one of a number of companies selling K-Cup coffee.

And they do sell a range of about 35 different blends in the K-Cup format.

But beyond that, Green Mountain Coffee is in a unique position with regard to both K-Cup coffees and the Keurig Brewers.

In 2006 Green Mountain Coffee Roasters purchased Keurig. That is to say, they purchased the company that makes the K-Cup coffee brewers themselves.

This puts them in a unique position. Essentially they control the entire K-Cup coffee process. They own the manufacturer of the machine, and the patents and licenses that came with it.

Having one company in total control of both the brewers and K-Cups might give some Keurig brewer owners cause for concern.

What if Green Mountain Coffee Roasters went out of business? What if they didn’t keep adding to the K-cup coffees available? What if the quality of the coffees was less than excellent?

It’s a legitimate concern. However, any worries one might have are mitigated considerably by the fact that GMCR is a company with an excellent reputation and a long history.

The company was founded in 1981 and quickly won a reputation for the very high quality of the coffees it roasts. And it’s important to point out that they are first and foremost coffee roasters. They are not a company that simply buys roasted beans and sells them on.

So when you buy coffee in the K-Cup format, you are buying a roast that is already available for purchase as whole or ground beans. In other words, they put their best coffees into the K-Cups they sell.

It is also worth noting that Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is a leader in the field of social and environmental responsibility.

They contribute to and support numerous social and environmental causes, locally, nationally and internationally.

All this is to say that GMCR is a reputable, established company and can be trusted to continue providing excellent K-Cup coffee blends for the foreseeable future.
